Overview

The Health Care Assistant course prepares students to provide direct, compassionate care for clients in home care, long-term care, and clinical support settings. Emphasizing professional standards, and person-centred practice.

What You’ll Learn

  • Fundamentals of person-centred care and client dignity
  • Safe transfer, mobility assistance, and basic restorative care
  • Infection prevention & control, including proper PPE use
  • Monitoring vital signs, basic clinical observations, and documentation
  • Basic wound care, medication assistance under supervision, and nutrition support
  • Communication, ethics, and teamwork in interdisciplinary care settings

  • Duration: 2 Months
  • Schedule: Self-paced, asynchronous

Other Certifications (Required for Employment)

The following certifications are commonly required by employers but are not included in this program. Students are encouraged to obtain them independently to enhance employability:

  • Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C)
  • WHMIS and Infection Control training
  • Optional modules: Dementia care, Palliative care basics

Admission Requirements

Domestic Applicants

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • High school completion or mature student pathway
  • English proficiency suitable for clinical communication
  • Up-to-date immunization record.

International Applicants

  • Valid passport and study authorization (if required)
  • Translated/assessed academic transcripts (if not in English)
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent)
  • Immunization records and health clearance required by clinical partners
  • Vulnerable sector criminal record check as required
